These are Futbol Papa’s Knockout Round Predictions as the top teams and runners up of each group meet in the beginning of the knockout stage. Here is your chance to compare your thoughts and those of others to Papa’s.
France will win over Argentina as their young stars come of age in the biggest of stages and put an end to Lionel Messi’s dreams. Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo is the difference maker in his team’s win over Uruguay. Brazil will defeat Mexico as the Selecao begin to click on all cylinders and Belgium will be victorious over a game but over matched Japan. Spain will come out on top over a similarly over matched Russia and so will Croatia, showing some class in their win over Denmark. Sweden will defeat Switzerland in the most evenly matched pairing, giving the Swiss a taste of their rough play along with some decisive counterattacks. Colombia will win if James Rodriguez, Juan Cuadrado and Radamel Falcao are all healthy and on the pitch but England will pull the win if any one of those three is not on the line-up.
If Futbol Papa’s Knockout Round Predictions are correct, Portugal will meet France, Brazil will play Belgium, Spain will oppose Croatia and Sweden will fight it out with Colombia. France will (finally) show its mettle and defeat Portugal, Brazil will win over Belgium with a fine-tuned collective effort, Spain will out-class Croatia in what will become a cup classic, and Colombia will finally have the Swedes number with James and Falcao the difference makers. But Spain will be too much for Colombia in the semifinals, while Brazil’s Neymar will finally be fit and in form enough to be the match decider against France.
In the final, one of the better match-ups of recent cups, a hard fought and well played game (Remember the Portugal-Spain match that ignited the cup’s fans?) will go the Brazilian’s way.
